i've always strongly believed, creativity is the intersection of connecting

sums into a whole….

through the process of an innate awareness and the

ability to intuitively, emotionally, and intellectually pull

seemingly fragmented pieces together into one.

and if you get the chance; there is something austere and reflective about being at the beach in sept.

many hidden cloves tucked into vibrant green hills,

handsome forests where you can chase fairies, whisper secrets

down by the river beds, taste the serenity of

pure white snow & yes, where people can ride down a street on a horse…. a favorite spot is the quechee bridge and simon

pearce glass blowing studio; where artisans create exquisite glass.

good thoughts being sent to all of the friends & family there….

even when we don't know it; we are being gently held in the palm of

the hand and being loved.

well, it's been a busy time around here... some beautiful blue skies

that are rare treasures in this cloudy and foggy spring we are having;

just back from the surtex show in nyc; a wonderful and huge learning experience...

still processing & piecing together like a patchworked quilt in my mind.

signs of spring and easter are popping despite the chilly days we are still having...

took the two bottom pictures at my good friend's house, who is Finnish, and i learned

that to celebrate spring and easter's arrival, they grow real grass in a pot (loving this, no

plastic, stringy stuff :) and decorate willow branches & then the children will go house to

house and give a branch in exchange for a sweet. the daisies are a dash of femininity to my kitchen :)

"The Snow Day" by Komako Sakai ; It is yet another

snowy day here in New England. I had the pleasure of reading this children's

book to my LuLu last night & discovering the beautiful artwork by Komako.

She studied art in Tokyo with a background in textile design; which aptly you can

see from the wonderful textures she brings to her paintings... Her work strikes a harmony

of austerity, with a monochromatic pallet & a few hints of yellow.

Exciting news on two accounts! My dear friend recently

suggested that I take a look at they draw and cook.com

Upon where I discovered a wonderful and inspirational

community of fellow Illustrators. Nate and his sister Salli

are a talented design team, that started this fun project! I

cooked up this rocket ship pizza recipe & design for a contest.

The recipes that are selected will be published in a cook

book for children. Also, check out their latest contest offering

this time through the Food Network.

Today is the day that the rocket ship pizza was published on

their site :) check it out here!

And today would also be the day

that I can say my new website is COMPLETE up and hopefully

running now on all browsers! This is not for the faint at heart...

This is such a wonderful discovery ... I had no idea that there

was this beautiful short film based on Oliver Jeffres picture book, "Lost & Found".

A sweet tale of an adorable little boy and his friend penguin on a journey. Below is

the trailer. It was produced in 4 countries, over a span of 11 months, by a film crew of twenty.

Direction and production out of London's based studio aka. The eloquent music

score by German Composer, Max Richter. Now, I only need to find out how I

can order a copy here in the States....

this crayola 24 pack only cost 25 cents?! i didn't think anything cost a quarter anymore.

the binder in the middle is a great design by roobee, mara-mi. also, wanted to mention clementine art. i've seen their products @ whole foods & love

their website. nice clean lines, great photographs, & a good mission. especially, in the younger

age group where everything goes into the mouth. if cavemen made art from rocks and paints from plants-

why would we need to change their recipe?

Lilla is a tremendous mentor and graciously shared lots of wonderful advice and support. She is both an amazing artist and business person. Look for an exciting direction in my work and site, after letting all of Saturday simmer and swim around in my head.

Recently, I attended Seth Minkin's Art Show opening at the Liberty

Hotel in Boston. It was a really fun evening and his work looked great

in the space. The Liberty is an old Jail that has been converted and restored

into a boutique hotel. Seth's work is really fun to see in person- he works

large on canvas and this scale highlights the wit and his unique painterly style.

Denmark by my Aunt. She travels the world as a flight manager & thankfully

Melissa Sweet

The Melissa Sweet event took place last night and it was an absolute delight to meet her. She is as

gracious and lovely as her work and shared so much with us. Melissa spoke about her beautiful

work and the process of researching and illustrating accurately depicted paintings. My only regret is that

I didn't bring a camera to have a picture taken with her. For me, it was like meeting a 'super hero' :)...

She also shared a quote about dedication and success. Although, I don't recall the exact quote, here is one

the I found by Albert Einstein that is of the same sentiment...

"I think and think for months and years, ninety-nine times, the conclusion is false.

The hundredth time I am

right."

Melissa Sweet, Illustrator Extrodanire.

I have loved Melissa's work since I first saw it about five years ago. She has

a beautiful painterly style and uses colors so well... Melissa lives in Maine, but

surpringsly it's about 4 or so hours from Boston. So, I've never made it to her studio for a visit

b/c that would be an overnight trip. Thankfully, I discovered that she is coming to the Boston area next

week for a dinner and signing. With my birthday around the corner, it feels like it came a little

Update: I am happy to report that I believe it is now running across all browser platforms.

Have redesigned the whole site in my new CS4 dreamweaver-

an upgrade from MX version. A few more tweaks and it will be launching soon! (in the meantime, the site has been put 'under development') . Also going on a much needed vacation... will be in Maine for the rest of the week catching up on r & r and exploring. Saw the above barn in NH a few weeks ago and thought it would make a wonderful design studio or a great place to write. I'll tack it that mental dream list :)
